Junior League has been a great partner of Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Our relationship spans the 30 year history of EIF, with Junior League being a long-time partner and donor of more than $100,000! Junior League of Champaign-Urbana founded the Backpack Program, which distributes backpacks of nutritious food for children attending partner schools across Champaign County during the 32 week school year. Those packs then go home with children in need to ensure they have food over the weekend. The Backpack Program is a part of Eastern Illinois Foodbank’s “Healthy Futures Initiative”, our coordinated approach to alleviating child hunger, which is a huge concern as the areas that the Eastern Illinois Foodbank serves are deeply affected by child hunger.
In fact, in eastern Illinois, 1 out of 7 individuals struggle with hunger and 1 in every 3 individuals served by the Foodbank is a child.
Eastern Illinois Foodbank is doing its part in helping allivate hunger by serving 14 counties, and providing food to 220 soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and emergency food programs. Last year, the Foodbank helped nearly 116,800 people across its service area.
To volunteer or donate, please visit the Eastern Illinois Foodbank’s website at www.eifoodbank.org and bear in mind that $1 that you donate equates to 6 meals to neighbors in need.
